Women’s Resource Center, Poukwasi Ghana

Empowering women and girls in Ghana through microfinance, education, and health initiatives since 2003, the non-profit Women’s Trust envisioned a Resource Center that would centralize its administrative offices and programs spaces. The architects worked with the organization from 2008 through 2012 to develop a building that was responsive to programmatic requirements, local materials and building technologies, and climate. The architecture was adjusted as multiple sites, in town and on the outskirts, flat and sloped were considered. The project is currently on hold, as Women’s Trust continues to focus on the provision of services.

Project involvement: Barbara Mehren Freeman: Architect of Record, Principal in Charge responsible for design.  Pamela Hanson: design development team while with Mehren Freeman Architects.
