Lake Todd, Newbury NH

A charming New England cape sits at the edge of the woods overlooking Lake Todd. Wanting to make their home more sustainable, the owners chose to relocate their primary living spaces to a new, well-insulated addition, leaving the original part of the home for guest lodging. Important to the design was a new, spacious kitchen in the old ell, and a large woodstove for the primary heat source. The design includes an areaway for loading firewood into the basement and a motorized lift to raise the wood to the first floor level.

Project involvement: Barbara Mehren Freeman: Architect of Record, Principal in Charge responsible for design in collaboration with Pamela Hanson: design development through construction administration team, Project Architect responsible for  construction documentation while with Mehren Freeman Architects.
